Sons of Eden

Sons of Eden have a simple philosophy to produce wines with flavour and personality from vineyards of unique character within the world class Barossa region. Specialising in varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre and Riesling, Sons of Eden recognize the real craft of winemaking comes in lending nature a helping hand and knowing when to stand back and let the ancient mystery take its course.
The chosen one: Sons of Eden Pumpa Cabernet Shiraz 2010
My impression:
Very deep red purple colour in the glass. An explosion of super ripe blackberry and raspberry. Crushed dark berries in a glass!
In the press:
Full purple-crimson; 47/24/9% blend of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and tempranillo that is loaded with flavour and character; cassis, black cherry and blackberry all react synergistically, with a seductive bitter chocolate/earth character attached to the tannins. Great Value. 14.5% alc. RRP $25

A little about the craftsman Simon Cowham:
1. How did you get into wine making?
Was always interested in wine from a creative and scientific view point and also have a passion for agriculture. Wine was the perfect fit and I also enjoy the business challenge of creating something from scratch that has international appeal.
2. What is your wine making philosophy?
Making wine that reflects site and season. Fortunately the seasons within the Barossa are very consistent and conducive to making great textured wines. Together with co-owner and winemaker, Corey Ryan, we value our ability to control the whole winemaking process from pruning through to the bottling. This is paramount when making wines with individual site expression.
3. Where would we find you when you’re not in the vineyard?
This is far from the romantic image of the wine game, but I would have to say in the bloody office. When time permits I’m chasing sporting endeavours or being a spectator watching AFL or tennis.
4. What’s one thing everyone should know about winemaking?
There is no such thing as putting your toe in the water with this industry. Your either in or you’re out. That is unless you have a passion for expensive hobbies. Think blood, sweat and tears. The satisfaction factor, however, is huge.
5. What is your favourite DRINK?
Changes regularly depending on what region I’m visiting in my glass but can’t go past Eden Valley Riesling.
6. What plate of food and drink would you bring to a potluck dinner?
Dim sum and Sons of Eden Freya Riesling
